Why not change your life one workout at a time?

Regular exercise is so important as we age.  We lose muscle mass as we get older.  Coordination and balance begin to wane.  Our bodies get stiffer and less limber.  And in our older years, risk of illness and disease increase.  Doesn’t sound like the most pleasant future, does it?

The good news is that regular exercise can help reverse most of these trends.  If you aren’t convinced that fitness is for you, take a read.  I am listing four of the most important reasons to get started on your fitness journey.

Make your body better and healthier

Exercising regularly helps maintain and improve your health.  Resistance training and aerobic exercise positively impact blood pressure, cholesterol, bone density, joint health, and have been shown to prevent disease.  The studies I have read suggest that 80% of chronic illness can be prevented through regular exercise and healthy nutrition.  If you don’t know how or what to do, consider hiring a personal trainer to guide you.

Keep your mind and brain healthy

Regular exercise also keeps your mind and your brain healthy.  When you are consistently lifting weights and doing aerobic exercise, you will find that you are thinking more clearly and have a greater sense of well-being.  Strength and cardiovascular training also ease depression, reduce anxiety, and known to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s. No doubt about it – exercise improves your mood and lifts your spirits!  Pretty amazing to know how a little sweat can readily enhance your life!

Feel better about yourself and your life

I believe it is essential to our sense of self to succeed with the health and state of our bodies.  Building strength and fitness builds a more positive body image.  The confidence we gain from greater physical capabilities is a boost to self-esteem.   When we feel physically competent and capable, we become more connected to how powerful we truly are to lead the life we desire.

It is inspiring when you see this happen.  Light bulbs go off when our personal training clients really connect to their inner strength and the potential it represents.  All of a sudden, aging becomes irrelevant.   Opportunities are definitely created in the gym.  One client recently said to their trainer, “Thanks for giving my life back to me!”

Live with more presence

Exercising and moving the body, especially in a thoughtful and mindful way, grounds us in our bodies.  And when we feel grounded, we are more present to what is going on within us and around us.  We have a better sense of what works for us and what doesn’t.  With those insights, we can make different choices to move toward what serves us well.

Years ago, I had many life changing experiences in my first yoga classes.  As I learned how to be more present in my body, I became more and more aware that my career path and workstyle were brutal to my body (and psyche).  I learned a better way to be within my body and myself. I began to make different choices in nutrition and how I dealt with stress.  The awareness I gained also told me I needed to be on a new path in life.  That new path eventually led to Strand Fitness!

When life feels “off,” I have learned to return to my body.  It always helps me steer the ship of life!

Be stronger and more fit! And enjoy your life more!
