Any type, size, and shape of body can be stronger and more fit. This is what I love and appreciate about strength training and aerobic conditioning. There are no real barriers to entry – just those we may concoct in our heads. Looks, shape, weight, age, and even current fitness levels – they don’t matter. We all belong!
Out of shape and never really exercised?
No problem! If this is the case, you may be wise to hire a personal trainer. Look for one who customizes and tailors fitness programs. This is likely someone who works one-on-one with their clients. A personal trainer, I believe, is the best way to get a program that factors in your current fitness level and moves you forward with a logical plan. Even if you work with a trainer for a short period of time, you will benefit from the individual attention and customized program.
At Strand Fitness, we believe fitness is for everyone! And we can help you find the path that suits you best.

Don’t want to be a bodybuilder?
Neither do we! And neither do our clients!
Strength training is about more than big muscles and big weights. Yes, people lift heavy weights to “bulk up” and for absolute strength. But a vast majority of people build muscle with relatively light or moderate weights (without bulk). Add in some time getting the heart rate up, and you have a nice formula to toning the body and building strength and endurance that will fuel your life.
Strength training is a great way to tone the body and keep your weight in check. But getting stronger and more fit is also about feeling good, being healthy, and moving well. True gratification comes from more confident, having more energy, and being more focused and productive in all aspects of life. There are so many facets to getting stronger and more fit. It makes the journey appealing – there is no one size fits all.
If you are intimidated by large fitness centers or know group fitness studios are not a fit, consider looking for a small, private studio with a focus on general health and fitness. Here at Strand Fitness, we believe the most important reason to train is to live a better life outside of the gym. And to live that life on your own terms, especially as you age.

Unsure how to workout?
There is no one best way to get stronger and more fit. That is why it can be confusing and why many people struggle on their own. I believe this is one of the best reasons to hire a personal trainer. Most trainers are well-versed in many workout methods and know how to incorporate many different types of equipment. Their training methods offer a variety and diversity that keep your workouts mentally engaging and physically challenging.
Working with a personal trainer also helps prevent injuries. A trainer will tailor intensity and exercise selection based upon your current fitness level and physical skills. The best ones are not wedded to any particular workout style. Instead, the best trainers help you find the workout approach that works best for you and keeps you coming back to the gym.
