We all have one – an Achilles Heel – in our fitness journey.
For most people, there is at least one area that trips them up and causes them not to reach their fitness goals. That one vulnerability where it is so easy to fall off track. Nutrition is one of the biggest challenges for people, especially those who want to lose weight. This is one of the reasons that I brought Precision Nutrition’s Nutrition & Lifestyle Program to Strand Fitness.
I was introduced to the program about five years ago. First, I was coached through the program and then became Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certified. I love this program!
Positive Thinking with Precision Nutrition
The Nutrition & Lifestyle Program helped me lose 25 pounds.
But most importantly, I gained the knowledge and skills to navigate through my nutritional challenges. It also freed me from years of self loathing about my weight. I have always been overweight (or, at least, that is what I taught myself). Even when I lost 70 pounds and had 16% body fat, I still had the mentality that I was a “fat” person who just happened to get thin. I realized the other day that my perspective has switched. I believe myself to be a thin person on the inside and have a few pounds that I want to lose on the outside. “I am fat” is no longer in my psyche. That shift, profound for me, is a result of the coaching I received as a client of the PN Coaching Program.
We’ve just celebrated a year of offering this transformational program to our clients. Participation is growing. And our clients are creating powerful change in their lives and in their fitness.
Reflections from Precision Nutrition Users
Rachel, a current coaching client, had this to say about the program:
“The Nutrition Program keeps my head in the game. It’s a daily reminder of my goal and helps to keep me on track. The tools are outstanding, and the program has a very good understanding of human nature and the ups and downs of working towards a long-term goal.”

I also asked our client, Candace, to share her thoughts about our Nutrition & Lifestyle program. Candace shared this list of what she likes about the program:
- It’s a daily compliance pill.
- It teaches lifelong habit changes. It’s not just a grocery list of can and can’t.
- It addresses the psychology behind aweight “problem.”
- It’s now easier for me to identify self-sabotaging behavior and stop or, at least, moderate any out of control spirals (I have fewer binges).
- I perceive where I was when I started and where I am now as a process/journey. And I don’t label my lack of weight loss as failure.
- The program is so much more than weight loss.
“I signed up for the Nutrition & Lifestyle Program because I was looking for a daily compliance pill. Managing (or not managing) Type II Diabetes for 10+ years, I have at the very least a passing knowledge of what/how much to eat to be healthy and keep my blood sugar level. With a long term disease like diabetes, you have to make a commitment to healthy choices every single day. But you also have to be realistic about life. The Nutrition & Lifestyle Program coaching gives me that daily reminder to make good choices. I may not always accomplish my daily tasks, but I’m so much more conscious of my behavior. And even if I’m choosing something NOT healthy, I’m actively aware that I’m doing it.
I love that it’s habit based and focused on improving “just a little” at a time. This concept has really helped me to stop “throwing the baby out with the bath water.”I may have a bad food choice day (or week), but then I’m back in control whereas in the past, months or years could go by and any progress I’ve made would be gone and more pounds back on. I haven’t lost that much weight this year, but I haven’t gained any either and that in and of itself is progress.
I find myself often thinking, “how did they know this was where my head was and what reminder or lesson I need at this point in the program”.
I have a different attitude about what the end game is. Yes, I want and need to lose pounds, but that’s a side effect of making realistic and long term (hopefully lifelong) behavior and thought changes. That is the real benefit of the Program’s coaching. Diet plans work until you stop using the checklist or going to the group meetings. This Program helped me identify intrinsic behaviors and mindsets that have kept me from being successful. It’s still a journey, and I’ve re-upped my participation to keep getting that daily reminder. I’m 54 years old and have spent 54 years “becoming” my habits and developing my coping strategies for life’s challenges. Changing that isn’t a quick fix. I’m quite confident that I would have lost a lot more weight had I been meticulous in my practice of all the habits and I expect to see greater results in that regard this next round.”
