Choose Health!

In the hustle and bustle of getting workouts in, checking whether we lost weight, and looking for changes in how our body looks and feels; it is easy to lose site of a main benefit of regular exercise and a nutritious diet.  That main benefit is health.

Getting active and eating healthy improves our health.  Sometimes significantly!

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that eliminating 3 risk factors – poor diet, inactivity, and smoking – would prevent:

  • 80% of heart disease
  • 80% of Type 2 Diabetes
  • 40% of certain cancers – e.g. breast, colorectal, prostate.

Additionally, regular exercise and a healthy diet have been shown to help manage or prevent cardiovascular disease, arthritis, osteoporosis, certain cancers, Type 2 Diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and mental health.

So while we focus on the external benefits of fitness, it is also important to be mindful of the positive changes that are happening inside of our body.  Fitness creates health!

Choosing health promotes a more positive mindset.

Mindset is a powerful indicator of whether we will be successful or not in our fitness journey (in life too!).  Our intentions play a big role in how we perceive our journey and pursue our goals. When we are “choosing,” we find ourselves more engaged with and more accountable to our goals. This lays the foundation for our success.

The “choice” of health reduces stress and triggers our creativity. When we are no longer “battling the bulge,” we will see more opportunity to set aside time for consistent workouts and to make better food choices. There is more ease in our journey as a result.

Strand Fitness client, Tim (L), trains so he can enjoy doing things he loves – like hiking and biking. That’s his trainer, Bob Peterson, cheering him on.

If you don’t know what to do or are afraid to start, consider hiring a personal trainer.

Seek an experts’ guidance if you are unsure about what to do.  If you haven’t been exercising and focusing on your nutrition, certainly check in with your doctor or medical professional before you start your fitness journey.  You may also want to consider hiring a personal trainer.

A personal trainer will give you a highly personalized fitness program that addresses any health issue or concern that you have. You will also have the guidance and support to be success. No need to struggle on your own!
